Passengers at Tan Son Nhat Airport
Speaking at the city's regular meeting on December 26, Tran Van Hoach, Head of the Service Quality Supervision Department under the Southern Airport Authority, said that Tan Son Nhat saw an air traffic volume of approximately 39.8 million passengers in 2024, a decrease of 2.1 percent compared to the previous year.
"While the number of domestic passengers fell by 11 percent on-year to 23.60 passengers, international passengers rose by 14 percent to 16.20 million," Hoach reported.
Currently, 51 international and six domestic carriers operate at the airport, averaging over 600 flights and over 100,000 passengers daily.
To prepare for the peak season around the Tet Lunar New Year holiday, Hoach said that the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) had adjusted the flight capacity at Tan Son Nhat, raising it to 48 flights per hour during the day and 46 per hour at night, a notable rise from the usual 38–40 flights.
The holiday lasts from January 25 to February 2. The airport is expected to serve 800 flights with approximately 130,000 passengers daily.
CAAV said that booking rates for flights operating at Tan Son Nhat during the Tet holiday had been between 90 and 100 percent.
