Many streets in HCM City have faced serious congestion due to increased traffic ahead of the Tet Lunar New Year Holiday.

Some streets in the city centre including Dinh Tien Hoang, Ly Tu Trong, Hai Ba Trung in District 1, Cach Mang Thang 8, Vo Thi Sau in District 3, Nguyen Van Troi, Le Van Sy in Phu Nhuan District, and Hoang Van Thu, Cong Hoa in Tan Binh District have seen hour-long traffic jams over the past few days.

On Thursday morning, cars and motorbikes lined up for nearly two kilometres on Hoang Van Thu Street.

The Phan Thuc Duyen - Tran Quoc Hoan intersection near to Tan Son Nhat Airport has always been crowded.

The same scenes could be seen on Le Van Sy and Nguyen Van Troi, and many other streets. Drivers often use pavements.
A motorbike taxi driver, Hoang Van Ha, said that many streets in the city only face traffic jams during rush hours on normal days but now the congestion lasts throughout the day.

"More people are going out shopping or completing their work to prepare for the Tet Holiday," he said.
