According to the department, it is necessary to speed up key transport projects in the city, including tunnels at Nguyen Van Linh-Nguyen Huu Tho and Tran Quoc Hoai-Cong Hoa intersections.

The city also needs to soon start work on expanding Hoang Hoa Tham Street in Tan Binh District and building an overpass at Bon Xa Intersection in Tan Phu District.

More traffic lights and cameras need to be installed.

The local transport sector would also improve co-operation with concerned agencies to monitor traffic through camera systems to detect violations. The police will conduct more street patrols.

HCM City is home to a total of 5,000 kilometres of road and 1,088 overpasses. The city has nearly nine million vehicles, including one million cars and eight million motorbikes.
