Police in Ho Chi Minh City have busted a large-scale counterfeit Crocs operation, seizing nearly 10,000 pairs of fake sandals and prosecuting two suspects

The city's Economic Police Division said it had charged Nguyen Van Thang, director of Thang Dat Footwear Co., Ltd., and company manager Lam Thanh Vung with infringing industrial property rights.

Earlier this month, police raided two company sites in Di An Ward, seizing nearly 10,000 counterfeit Crocs sandals worth almost VND 500 million, along with production equipment and materials.

Investigators said Thang had led the operation since January 2024 and assigned Vung to oversee day-to-day production activities involving 12 workers.

Police alleged that the group had manufactured and sold a particularly large quantity of counterfeit Crocs products over the past two years, generating illicit profits worth tens of billions of dong.

The investigation is continuing to identify others involved, including suppliers of raw materials and distributors of the counterfeit products.

Authorities said the case formed part of a broader campaign against intellectual property violations and counterfeit goods aimed at protecting legitimate businesses and consumers.
