Since HCM City’s Covid-19 outbreak, blood donation activities in the city have been postponed, affecting blood stockpiles for medical treatment. The city’s blood stocks are only enough for some days to come. Following the HCM City Blood Donation Centre’s call, many people have come to make blood donations over the last recent days.

Nguyen Thi Phong Lan, 35, from District 12 said that she asked her manager for time off so she could donate blood.

The blood donation time is from 8 am to 11:30 am and from 1:30 pm to 5 pm every day. Over the past two days, the centre has received lots of volunteers who have to conform to Covid-19 prevention regulations.

People also have to experience some medical check-ups before making a blood donation.

Phan Nguyen Thuy Trang, 28, in Tan Binh District came to the centre for the blood donation with a group of her friends.

According to Dr Tran Thi Tham from the centre, volunteers can register their donation through mobile phone to save time during the pandemic. After the health declaration and medical check-up, it takes a person only 10 minutes to complete the procedure. Every day, the centre receives around at least 600 units of blood, she added.

The average blood donated by a person is 250-350 ml, depending on their health.

The blood is preserved carefully before being provided to medical facilities.
