The city government has agreed to adjust the planned route of Metro Line 2, which will run between Thu Dau Mot and HCM City, as well as Metro Line 3, according to proposals submitted by the city's Urban Railway Management Board and Department of Construction.
Under the revised plan, the Thu Dau Mot-HCM City metro line will stretch about 38.9 kilometres from its connection with the Binh Duong New City-Suoi Tien metro route to Tao Dan Station in central HCM City.
The extension increases the line's length from the previously planned 23.3 kilometres, which was due to terminate near Hiep Binh Phuoc Depot.
Meanwhile, Metro Line 3 will be shortened to around 32.5 kilometres, running between Tao Dan and An Ha.
The adjustment is expected to provide a direct rail connection between Binh Duong and central HCM City, eliminating the need for passengers to transfer at Hiep Binh Phuoc.
Tao Dan Station, which is also planned as an underground station on Metro Line 2 linking Ben Thanh and Tham Luong, is expected to become a major interchange connecting three metro lines once the network is completed.
