EVN HCMC said on March 18 that they have already planned for higher power supply during the dry season.
According to EVN HCMC, the average power consumption during the first 15 days of March 2021 was 76.5 million kWh per day which is higher than that of the same period last year of 76.2 million kWh per day.
The average power consumption in March is estimated to reach 77.3 million kWh per day which is a 1.97% increase on-year.
A representative from EVN HCMC, Pham Ngoc Minh, said that daily power consumption is predicted to continue rising in April, May, and June, to between 79.7-81.5 million kWh per day, against 73.14 million kWh per day of the same period last year.
"Power consumption usually rises during the dry season," Minh said. "It is estimated that power consumption will increase between 2-3% when the temperature rises by 1 degrees celsius."
The official said that the heat may peak in HCM City in early May with temperatures of 36 - 37 degrees celsius. However, the real temperatures may reach 40-42 degrees celsius due to the impact of urbanisation. This would lead to higher power demand.
According to the current power prices calculation policy, there are six pricing levels depending on the amount of power consumed. The prices will be between VND1,678 (USD0.07) - 1,734 per kWh if customers use less than 100kWh a month. And the prices will increase to a minimum VND 2,927 (USD0.1) if customers use from 401 kWh onwards a month.
