Many people avoid going out at the hottest time of the day. So many of Hanoi’s main streets are quite deserted, except at rush hours.

People wear sun-protecting clothes.

Some people travelling on Le Hong Phong Street stopped about 5-7 metres before the traffic light to benefit from the shade of trees.

Many ride-hailing drivers and freelance workers also choose the shade under overpasses and elevated roads as a place to take a rest amid the sweltering heat.

At midday on Thursday, the area around Dong Xuan Market in Hoan Kiem District remained busy despite the heat.

In the area near My Dinh Bus Station, outdoor workers have to equip themselves with conical hats to shield against the sun and face towels to absorb sweat.

An environmental worker said that the hot weather meant she watered trees more than usual.
