Police in Ba Dinh District said that they had issued a fine of VND11.50 million (USD 507) to the driver, Phan Van Xuan who had falsely branded his car as a taxi to cheat customers.
Xuan also had his driving license revoked for two months and his car detained for seven days, said head of the Ba Dinh District's Transport Police Department, Bui Ngoc Tan. "He was also requested to return the taxi fee to the French tourist.
According to a report from the police, a French tourist came to complain to authorities at Noi Bai International Airport about being overcharged by a taxi driver.
The tourist said that he took the taxi with plate number 30E - 487.64 from Hang Giay Street in the Old Quarters to Noi Bai Airport on September 21 and the driver asked him to pay VND1.8 million for the ride and VND
325,000 for other fees.
