In 2017, many local pavements were upgraded with natural stone which was claimed to have a duration of 50-70 years.

However, the stone paving has quickly deteriorated.

It is easy to see cracks on stone pavements such as Tran Phu Street in Ha Dong District, Nguyen Trai Street in Thanh Xuan District and Giang Vo Street in Ba Dinh District.

Do Ngoc Anh, a student who often travels through Tran Phu Street to catch the bus, said that the cracks and holes on the pavement have appeared for a long time and were dangerous to by-passers.

Driving on the pavement is a major contributory factor and they often don’t receive regular maintenance.

The pavement on Tran Phu Street is always parked on.

Frequent digging for work related to installing water pipes and cables has also badly affected pavements.
