So far this year, Hanoi has reported a total of 1,556 dengue fever cases, up four-fold on-year. No deaths have been recorded so far.

Over the past three weeks, dengue fever cases in the city have been on the sharp increase. Some outbreak clusters have worsened, with a high number of patients, with a prolonged course of the disease.

The monitoring results at the outbreak clusters indicate that some of them have not been thoroughly treated. The Breteau Index (BI) based on the number of containers with any larvae or pupae, divided by the total number of inspected households, has remained high, and chemical spraying has not met the required standards in many areas.

For instance, the BI in Bien Giang Ward in Ha Dong District and Vinh Quynh Commune in Thanh Tri District reached 55 and 44 out of 100, respectively.

CDC Hanoi forecasted that dengue fever patients in Hanoi would continue increasing in the coming time.

Doctor Tran Duy Hung from the National Institute of Malariology, Parasitology and Entomology said to date, there is no specific treatment for dengue fever cases. When facing suspected signs, patients need to come to hospital for medical checks.
