Director of Hanoi Department of Health Nguyen Khac Hien said on February 17 that they had suspended the Raffles Medical Hanoi on Xuan Dieu Street. The Japanese patient visited the clinic before he died in his hotel room.

According to Hien, the clinic was suspended for violating regulations about the screening and testing process. The clinic will be opened when it deals with all of the issues, ensure preventive measures and report the results to the responsible authorities.

The Japanese patient entered Vietnam on January 17 and was quarantined in HCM City. He was tested negative twice on January 17 and 31. Afterwards, he went to Hanoi and self-isolated at Somerset West Point Hotel from February 1.

Three days later, he went to Raffles Medical Hanoi then resumed working. On February 8, he returned to Raffles Medical Hanoi. The clinic didn't detect anything unusual. On February 13, he was found dead in his room and tested positive for SARS-CoV-2.

As of February 17, Hanoi authorities have taken 585 samples related to the case. Two people who worked in the same company tested positive for SARS-CoV-2.

The local authorities are still investigating to find out whether the Japanese patient was infected in Japan, HCM City or Hanoi.
