The government has asked concerned agencies to study the construction of a metro line linking Hanoi with the neighbouring provinces of Bac Ninh, Hung Yen, Ha Nam and Vinh Phuc.

The move is part of the government’s action plan to realise the Politburo's resolution on the objectives for Hanoi’s development until 2030, with a vision to 2045.

Hanoi is currently the only locality in the Red River Delta region that has metro projects. By 2030, the city would have 10 metro routes with a total length of 417 kilometres, including 75 kilometres underground.

The Nhon-Hanoi metro route is scheduled to be put into official operation in 2027.

The government has also planned the implementation of metro lines connecting the provinces of Nam Dinh, Thai Binh and Quang Ninh and Haiphong City.

The government has instructed to finish Ring Road 4 in Hanoi in 2027. Other projects such as a coastal road travelling through Thai Binh, Nam Dinh and Ninh Binh would also be completed in the same year.

In the action plan, the government highlights the priority for developing the North-South; Kunming (China)-Lao Cai-Hanoi-Haiphong-Quang Ninh and Quang Ninh-Haiphong-Thai Binh-Nam Dinh and Ninh Binh economic corridors.
