According to a report from local authorities, the tragic accident occurred at 3.30pm when the coach was carrying 20 Chinese tourists and two Vietnamese tourist guides from the Central Highlands city of Dalat to Nha Trang City.

Initial investigation showed that the driver, Ho Ngoc Hung, 58, lost control of the coach while running on the Khanh Le Pass and then the coach overturned, the report said. Some people managed to break the windows to get out.

Three victims died at the scene of the incident, while one passed away on the way to a local hospital. The identities of the tourists had not been confirmed.

10 other tourists were injured and have been rushed to the hospital.

The 33-kilometre Khanh Le Pass is the longest one in Vietnam, with sharp bends, high cliffs, and deep ravines. There have been many traffic accidents here in the past.

Police are further investigating the accident.
