The police in Bac Ninh Province have decided to prosecute a local man for domestic abuse after allegedly beating his eight-year-old son to death.
Nguyen Cong Nghiep, deputy director of the provincial police department told DTiNews that they immediately decided to prosecute Do Van Loi, 46, for “intentionally causing injury” after his son, Do Doan Loc, died on the afternoon of March 18.

On the afternoon of March 15, police in Tien An Ward of Bac Ninh City was informed about the case where Loc was brutally beaten by his father and he was hospitalised for emergency aid.
The municipal police coordinated with the ward police started to hunt down for Loi. They found and arrested Loi on March 17 when he was hiding in the neighbouring Ninh Xa Ward.
According to the investigative agency, Loc has confessed all his misconduct that seriously injured Loc.
He said that on the afternoon of March 15, he lost some money and suspected that his son, Loc, stole it. He was so angry when Loc denied it that he used a steel bar to consecutively beat Loc. The boy was seriously injured and fell into a faint.

Loi admitted that he took Loc to the house of his older brother, Do Van Thang, claiming that the boy was injured due to a fall. Loi asked his relatives to help take the boy to the provincial general hospital and fled.
The boy was immediately sent to the provincial hospital but he was then taken to the Hanoi-based Vietnam-Germany Hospital because of the seriousness of his injuries.
Despite receiving attentively care and treatment at the hospital, Loc died on March 18, rising up mournfulness and anger among his relatives and the public as well.
According to Bac Ninh provincial police, the violent father has two previous convictions, including 18-months imprisonment starting from October 1995 for “opposing officers on duty” as well as another eight-year jail sentence for drug trafficking.
His wife, Doan Thi Thanh, 50, from Hanoi’s Tay Ho District was also sentenced to 20-year imprisonment for drug trafficking just one year after giving birth to Loc. Loc had been brought up by his aunt before coming to live with his father when he was released from prison two years ago.
According to some people living near their home, Loc was constantly beaten by his father but they did not dare to come to help because Loi was too rude.
Nguyen Cong Nghiep, from Bac Ninh provincial police, said they were conducting an autopsy to gather information about the cause of death.
