A hot spell will develop rapidly on March 4 and the temperature is forecast to jump to 37C or even 38C in the central provinces of Vietnam, including Nghe An, Ha Tinh and Thua Thien-Hue.

The heat wave, which will also affect the southern provinces, is expected to last for at least 3-4 days.

The unusual heat will end this weekend, when a cold front reaches the northern region. The temperature will then drop by 5-7C.
