Many rivers in the Mekong Delta region have been struck by erosion, sweeping dozens of houses away.

The Vam Co, Can Guoc and Tra On rivers this year have joined the Tien and Hau rivers in being faced with severe erosion.

Four houses in Tich Thien Commune located by the Tra On River were recently swept away by erosion, while four others were also damaged.

Houses by Can Giuoc River in Long An were also ruined by erosion on June 9.

Some 10 houses in Can Tho City’s Phong Dien District were also destroyed in May by erosion, causing total losses of some VND10 billion (USD425,531).

Earlier in February, a 30-metre section of the sea dyke connecting Bac Lieu and Soc Trang provinces experienced severe erosion.

Similar cases were reported in Phu Huu and Dong Phuoc communes in Chau Thanh District.

Nguyen Thi Sen from Dong Hai Commune in Tra Vinh said, her cucumber garden and house were ruined by erosion three years ago. She was worried this would happen to her newly built home.
