
The use of data stored in the VneID app to verify passenger identity during check-in and security screening was earlier successfully tested at Cat Bi, Van Don, Phu Bai, and Noi Bai airports.
With a level 2 identity account, a person’s driving license, vehicle registration, health insurance card, payment of various electronic bills, financial transactions, government services, and online public services are all integrated. In addition, a level 2 identity account is equivalent to a chip-based ID.
Passengers who join the pilot voluntarily will show their VneID app, which could replace the plastic ID card or other travel documents presented to airline staff at check-in and boarding.
Speaking to Dantri/Dtinews, a representative from ACV said that airport staff must pledge not to use passengers' information for illegal purposes.
Director of Van Don Airport, Pham Ngoc Sau, said that they have set up a separate check-in desk for passengers using VneID app.
In the long term, the CAAV has proposed that passenger verification uses both VneID and biometric authentication.
