The group, consisting of 66 men and 13 women from 22 provinces and cities across Vietnam, had been working illegally in Cambodia.
Investigations found that 22 people had legally exited Vietnam using passports through border checkpoints, while 57 others had crossed the border illegally. Most had been living and working without legal documents in Cambodia and were detained by local authorities before being handed back to Vietnam.
According to their testimonies, many had voluntarily gone to Cambodia, legally or illegally, to work in Phnom Penh or Bavet as karaoke staff, restaurant workers, translators, or helpers at businesses owned by Chinese nationals. Others were recruited to work as “sales staff” for fraudulent companies running online scams such as fake shipping apps, collapsed investment apps and stock trading frauds.
For the 57 cases of illegal exit, Moc Bai International Border Gate prepared dossiers and issued administrative fines totalling VND 206 million (approximately USD 8,120).
