The accident left the father dead and mother of two children seriously injured.
The accident occurred to the family in Dinh Quan District’s Suoi Nho Commune on July 10 when Dinh The Chuong, 37, was transporting his wife Tran Thi Ngat, 31, and their two children on a motorbike. They were suddenly crashed into by a truck. Chuong died on the spot, while Ngat and the two children were severely injured.

Ngat suffered from multiple trauma with multiple broken bones. She had to use anaesthetic for 20 days to ease the pain. Her recovery has taken longer than normal as she suffers from diabetes.
Over the past three months, Ngat has undergone 10 operations, and only recently escaped critical condition. She still needs more surgery due to broken bones in her shoulder, hip and eye sockets.
Meanwhile, Ngat’s 11-year-old boy Dinh Duy Quang currently can’t stand due to an injury in his right leg, so he also needs surgery. He also experienced skull surgery.
Quang now uses a wheelchair and he can only use his right arm. According to doctors, he will have to undergo more operations on his left arm and right leg.
Ngat said that most of their treatments are covered by medical insurance, however, her family has still had to borrow an additional VND200 million (USD8,333) for the hospital fees.
Vu Duc Tu, head of Village 5, said that the treatment of Ngat and her children would be long and costly, and their relatives were all poor. The locality can’t give financial support to them due to the limited budget.
Local authorities instructed her to apply for social subsidies, but even this was quite modest.
