Editor-in-Chief of Dantri/Dtinews, Pham Tuan Anh decided to send VND 45 million to 14 local families following reports that hundreds of poor people in the area are in need of support after losing their houses and belongings to a recent flash flood. Newspaper representatives visited on October 5 and gave VND5 million to a family who lost a member and their house to the flood. Thirteen other families whose houses were also swept away by the flood were given VND3 million each.

"My house was swept away with all my belongings inside by the flood," she said. "The whole area is now still under water and mud and we don't have any land to put up a new house."


Speaking to Dantri/Dtinews, chairman of Ky Son District People's Committee, Nguyen Huu Minh, said that the flood caused over VND 100 billion in damage.

"The Muong Xen Town and Ta Ca Commune were hardest hit with local houses and public works severely damaged," he said. "We're now trying to clear the debris, rebuild, and resume our lives."

The flash flood occurred following heavy rains that were triggered by Storm Noru. Seven people in the province died and close to 20,000 houses were flooded.
