Dangerous exchange between gangsters in HCMC

Two rival groups of gangsters pursued each other through the centre of HCM City during the night of March 8 with intentions to kill.

Two rival groups of gangsters pursued each other through the center of Ho Chi Minh City during the night of March 8 with intentions to kill.

A store was filled with people when it got caught in the crossfire.

The altercation took place at a road junction near Ho Hao Lon, Chuong Duong Wharf, Co Giang Ward, District 1.

According to witnesses, there were about 7 young boys riding motorbikes on East-West Avenue. They moved from District 5 towards District 1 when they all stopped at the Ho Hao Hon road junction to plan an attack.

While the two groups of gangsters were preparing to fight each other, one person suddenly drew a gun and shot at a member of the other group. After that, they pursued with intentions of violence, perhaps even murder, carrying weapons such as swords and machete. Some hid in stores or houses which were located along the roads where the pursuit led. The whole street became consumed with chaos.

One man with a gun rushed towards a store at 256 Chuong Duong while chasing another man, there were about 10 customers inside. One shot was fired which shattered a shop window, fortunately, nobody was hurt.

The group with the gun tried to pursue and kill members of the other group. One man was captured and suffered from so many cuts and stabs that he was taken to the emergency room.

Immediately after being reported, the police of Co Giang Ward came to the scene to restore the peace. The police made one arrest and confiscated a machete and two motorbikes.

As of 1AM on March 9, the police made 2 additional arrests from the same group that had possession of the gun.

Currently, the police are collaborating with professional forces to pursue and capture those involved.
