A landslide occurred on Hoang Hoa Tham Street in Dalat City on June 29.

Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee on Thursday afternoon decided to suspend Huu from his post while they clarified the responsibilities of individuals and organisations relating to the deadly landslide that occurred the same morning.

The committee also requested the local construction department and concerned agencies to check on all construction projects that lie around Hoang Hoa Tham Street and other landslide-prone areas and stop issuing new construction licences in those areas.

The move came after two people were killed and five others injured after a landslide buried some houses in Hoang Hoa Tham Street in Dalat City early Thursday morning.

According to a report from local authorities, the landslide which was triggered by three hours of heavy rain, occurred at 3 am on June 29 on Hoang Hoa Tham Street. A 50-metre-long street broke off and crashed onto some roadside houses, demolishing a two-story house. Luckily no one was inside at that time. The landslide also damaged three other houses nearby, injuring five people.

Two construction workers living in temporary tents next to the street were left missing after the landslide buried their tents. After hours of searching, rescue teams found their bodies at 12.40 pm. The two victims were identified as Nguyen Thi Hong, 45, and her husband aged 47 years old.

Several landslides were also reported in Ward 3 and Ward 11 on Thursday morning, damaging some local houses.

Dalat authorities are planning to evacuate people living in prone areas.

The Central Highlands city has been seeing heavy rains over the past few days with rainfall reaching 60 mm per hour, triggering landslides in sloped areas.
