According to investigators, the group regularly targeted dogs and cats in central Dalat, taking advantage of late-night hours and lapses in owners' supervision.

Police launched an investigation following a series of theft reports and caught the suspects while they were transporting stolen dogs for sale on May 19.

Investigators said the four men had previous convictions for theft and allegedly used homemade electric shock devices to capture dogs in several central wards of Dalat.

The stolen animals were then sold to Tuan, who operates a dog meat restaurant, police said.

Authorities believe the group stole around 124 dogs weighing more than two tonnes between January and their arrest.

The case remains under investigation.
