The boy is found sleeping in a mango tree in Daklak Province on April 3.
At around 4.30 pm on April 3, the boy, who lives in Cu Ewi Commune, returned home from school, left his backpack at the front door and went out to play with friends. By evening, when his parents came home and found him missing, they alerted neighbours and reported the incident to Cu Ewi Commune Police.
More than 100 people joined the search but were unable to locate the child for hours. At around 11 pm, a local resident happened to shine a flashlight into the canopy of a five-metre-tall mango tree in their garden and spotted the boy fast asleep on a narrow branch. The tree had thick foliage and wide-spreading branches, making it difficult to spot the child, who was nestled between two limbs.
Fearing the boy might be startled and fall if woken suddenly, rescue personnel stationed people below to catch him if necessary. A police officer carefully climbed the tree and gently carried the boy down to safety.
When asked what happened, the boy said he didn’t know how he ended up falling asleep up there.
