Couple die after boat capsizes on Dak Lak river

A husband and wife drowned after their boat overturned in strong currents while they were checking fishing nets on the Serepok River in Dak Lak Province.

Local authorities in Buon Don Commune, Dak Lak Province, confirmed on June 11 that two people had died in a boating accident on the river.

Early that morning, a local couple, both aged 63 and residents of Tri Village, Buon Don Commune, were travelling by boat on the Serepok River to inspect their fishing nets.

As they approached an area with swirling currents, the boat suddenly capsized, throwing both occupants into the water.

Residents who witnessed the incident immediately raised the alarm and notified local authorities. Search and rescue operations were launched shortly afterwards, involving emergency personnel and local residents living along the river.

At around 6.10 am, rescuers recovered the bodies of the husband and wife and brought them ashore.

According to the leadership of Buon Don Commune, heavy rainfall on the evening of June 10 caused water levels on the Serepok River to rise significantly, resulting in stronger currents than usual.

Authorities are continuing to review the circumstances surrounding the accident.
