Authorities in the northern city of Hai Phong on Friday held the groundbreaking ceremony for the Ben Rung Bridge which will connect the city's Thuy Nguyen District and Quang Yen Town in the neighbouring province of Quang Ninh.

The project, which has a total investment of nearly VND2 trillion (USD87 million), will span 1,865 metres with six lanes across the Da Bach River.

It is expected to be completed in 2024.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh stressed that the bridge would be the third road gateway connecting Hai Phong and Quang Ninh, and will help improve the socio-economic efficiency of the two most dynamic northern coastal economic zones.
Thanh also asked local authorities in Hai Phong to prepare for the construction of other key transport projects in the city including the coastal road connecting Hai Phong and Thai Binh Province, expressways and Cat Bi Airport.
