Nguyen Cong Hoang, vice chairman of the Quang Ngai People’s Committee, said the province has prepared contingency plans to ensure residents can return home for Tet in case of adverse weather.

Under the plan, local authorities will request assistance from Coast Guard Region 2 and arrange land transport from Sa Ky Port to the anchorage point of coast guard vessels.
The Quang Ngai Maritime Authority has been instructed to closely monitor weather conditions and coordinate with Coast Guard Region 2 to ensure the safe return of Ly Son residents if sea conditions deteriorate.
Ly Son, home to about 22,000 people, lies roughly 17 nautical miles off the mainland and is normally served by high speed ferries from Sa Ky Port. During the storm season, ferry services are frequently suspended because of rough seas, sometimes for five to seven days.
