Children have to travel to school by makeshift rafts every day in Dong Giang A Village.
Dong Giang A is a small village isolated by a canal. A local resident, Nguyen Thanh Tung, said that they have faced lots of difficulties travelling due to a lack of a bridge.
"We're worried most for our children who have to travel to school by makeshift rafts every day," Tung said. "It's very dangerous, especially during flood season."
The man said that local people think the bridge will provide safer travel and boost the local economy.
"We mostly live on farming here and it takes us lots of time to trade our agricultural products to other areas by boat," he added. "A bridge will help improve our economic conditions."
Another resident, Nguyen Van Nhat, said that a bridge will also help bring clean water to his village to ensure their health.
"For many years we have had no water supply but depend on rainwater for daily activities," Nhat said. "We hope to have a bridge soon so that clean water can be connected to our poor village."
Speaking to Dantri/Dtinews Newspaper, vice chairman of Dong Binh Commune People's Committee, Nguyen Van Chinh, shared that Dong Giang A Village has over 30 households who can only be accessed via a canal.
"Due to limited budget, we've been unable to build a bridge here," the official said. "We hope to receive some financial support to help build a bridge here so that local people can travel better and have access to clean water as well as improve their livelihoods.
