Can Tho Police said on May 12 that inspectors had discovered signs of environmental violations at S.I.S Can Tho International General Hospital on Nguyen Van Cu Street in An Binh Ward.
During a recent unannounced inspection, officials found that the hospital’s central wastewater treatment system was operating normally.
However, wastewater generated from cleaning the hospital’s domestic waste collection area and laundry facilities was allegedly not routed through the treatment system and instead discharged directly into the residential drainage network of the urban area along Nguyen Van Cu Street.
Investigators collected two wastewater samples to clarify the case, including one from the final discharge point serving the laundry and waste collection areas and another from the outlet following the hospital’s wastewater treatment system before connection to the residential drainage system.
At the time of the inspection, police ordered the hospital to strictly comply with environmental protection regulations, regularly maintain its wastewater treatment system and fully collect all waste generated during operations.
Authorities also instructed the hospital to prevent any discharge exceeding technical environmental standards that could affect surrounding residents and the local environment.
The Economic Police Department under Can Tho Police said it was gathering evidence and related documents for further legal action.
S.I.S Can Tho International General Hospital, also known as the Stroke and Cardiovascular Hospital, is a major specialist medical centre in the Mekong Delta region, treating millions of patients each year.
