A high-speed boat service connecting the southernmost province of Ca Mau, Nam Du Archipelago and Phu Quoc Island in the southern province of Kien Giang has been suspended after failing to attract passengers.

The boat service was put into use in July 2020. But the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak caused the service to temporarily stop. The service was resumed on March 18.

The Ca Mau-Nam Du-Phu Quoc boat service has been suspended after failing to attract passengers.

However, since being reopened, the service has failed to attract large numbers of passengers so the Phu Quoc Express Joint Stock Company has decided to halt it.

The makeshift terminal of the Ca Mau-Nam Du-Phu Quoc boat service is on the northern bank of Ong Doc River in Ca Mau, which means vehicles of more than 30 seats cannot enter the terminal. This makes larger groups divide up to use the service, Vu Van Khuong, general director of the company said.

The boat route would resume again after a terminal on the southern bank of Song Doc River and a bridge over the river was built, Khuong added.
