On August 2-4, monsoons and rising tides caused serious erosion for the 356-metre dyke section in Tran Van Thoi District.
Rescue forces used 2,500 trees and 7,000 bags of soil to consolidate the dyke.
The provincial people’s committee have directed concerned agencies to take measures to consolidate dykes.
More than 200 people were assigned around the clock to deal with any possible incidents.
Tang Quoc Chinh, general director of the disaster management department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, inspected the dyke erosion in Ca Mau. He asked the province to speed up the implementation of approved dyke protection projects.
Ca Mau has been urged to issue the stage of emergency on dyke erosion to take more drastic solutions to protect tens of thousands of people.
Ca Mau has over 250 kilometres of coastline, of which the western coast is around 108km long.
Over the past decade, the province has lost up to 8,800 hectares of coastal forests. Erosion has also happened at 27 local riverside spots along 38 kilometres
