Bodies of soldiers from capsized boat recovered

Rescue workers have found the bodies of all five soldiers missing since their boat capsized and disintegrated in heavy seas off Cua Dai beach in the central province of Quang Nam.

The body of serviceman Dang Ngoc Thien, who went missing on December 25, was brought ashore at 1pm on December 29.

Meanwhile, Sublieutenant Tran Dinh Duy was discovered dead 4 nautical miles from Cua Dai beach.

Another sublieutenant, Nguyen Hong Chien, was recovered in the marine area belonging to Duy Xuyen district, Quang Nam province, where the body of private Le Van Chi was found on December 27.

Both Duy and Chien have been brought to their homeland for internment.

Another victim was lieutenant Bui Phuoc Tam.

General Dao Duy Minh, Vice Head of the General Political Department of the Vietnam People’s Army, said the Ministry of Defence will provide VND50 million for each of the victims’ families. The commanders of the local military services will also assist with their burials.

The boat, carrying 34 people, mostly soldiers and officers, from Cu Lao Cham Island to the mainland, capsized and sank off Cua Dai beach on December 25.
