Customer Nguyen Thi Hien said that she needed a large amount of cash for the Lunar New Year so she came to a bank branch on Tran Thai Tong Street in Hanoi on Thursday morning. After waiting for roughly an hour, she asked a staff member and was told to come back in the early afternoon.

"That was the second time I came to the bank and left without being served," Hien said. "The ATMs near my home can only give out VND 5 million each transaction while facing constant errors so I will still have to wait at the bank."

Pham Thi Chi also said that she came to a bank on Cau Giay Street to get her new card following the bank's invitation but had to wait two hours on Wednesday.

A bank staff member in Hanoi, Phan Bich Tram, said that they always received a large number of customers before the Lunar New Year Holiday.

"We know that many customers are having to wait a long time these days and we thank them for their sympathy and understanding," she said. "We are also trying to work hard and don't even have time to get a drink."

Tram said that most customers at this time come to withdraw cash from their accounts or open new savings accounts.
