The decision was made by Nguyen Van Khoi, Vice-Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee after DTiNews reported the “domino effect” of motorbikes that wrecked inside the tunnel.
The document said that the Department of Transportation will lead the investigation in collaboration with the police of Hanoi, the management board for critical projects of Hanoi development and other related bodies. The government aims to provide effective solutions in order to protect the safety of people and their assets when they pass through the tunnel.
On the morning of March 1, DTiNews witnessed 3 separate incidents of motorbikes collapsing without explanation. When the traffic was flowing vehicles moved very quickly and suddenly, motorbikes fell to the ground in the middle of the road for unknown reasons.
Reader feedback has placed the cause of the crashes on many different possibliities. Some said that trucks carrying sand and construction debris left things on the road and combined with rain and fast moving of vehicles, this caused the accidents. However, some believed that ventilation fans where the accidents occurred were the cause. One reader said a row of columns next to each other distracted drivers due to sudden changes of light.
Authorities will announce the final result of their investigation to the public when it is complete.
