The whale was discovered early on Sunday by residents of Binh Hai Commune in Binh Son District. Locals tried to push the struggling animal back into the sea, but strong waves forced it ashore again. After several hours of weakness and distress, the whale died.

Following local fishing customs, villagers took the carcass to Thanh Thuy Whale Temple for burial, where rituals were held to honour the animal.
The latest incident comes just days after a one-tonne whale washed up dead on a beach in Binh Chau Commune, also in Binh Son District.
The whales, known locally as Ca Ong, or Lord Whale, are considered protectors of fishermen. When a whale dies at sea or washes ashore, coastal communities often hold ceremonial burials and enshrine the remains in whale temples as a sign of respect and gratitude.
