"We've suspended the staff member of the airport while further investigating the case," the department said. "He will be given punishment based on his offence."
On January 2, a Facebook accountholder named Kugan Pillai posted a status saying that he was asked to pay a tip by an officer at the Noi Bai International Airport immigration desk while departing to Singapore.
"I was at Hanoi’s airport immigration departing to Singapore today when this immigration officer wrote ‘tips’ on my air ticket," he wrote. "He was holding my passport and asking for it. I asked him for what but he just kept pointing to what he wrote. I didn’t know what to do or whom to ask for help and I was also rushing for my flight. I gave in to him in the end by giving 500,000 dong."
The passenger also said that he has already informed Singapore’s MFA about the case.
