The average price for a return ticket for flights of Bamboo Airways and VietJet Air on this occasion is VND7.2 million and VND7.5 million respectively.

The tickets are around three times the normal rate and 10-25 percent up compared to the same time last year.

Vietnam has fully reopened the local tourism sector from March 15 following a long suspension due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and there is a surge in travel demand for the April 30-May 1 holiday. This year, public workers in Vietnam will have four days off for the April 30-May 1 holiday.

The higher airfares have also been attributed to the sharp fuel increase.

In the first two months of this year, Vietnamese airlines transported around 17.6 million passengers on their domestic flights with total revenue of VND41 trillion (USD1.78 million). Since November last year, Vietnam has attracted around 10,000 foreign passengers.

The Vietnamese tourism sector has set a target to serve 5 million international visitors and 60 million domestic tourists with total revenue of VND400 trillion this year.
