An additional 8,601 Covid-19 infections were reported in Vietnam on Thursday and Hanoi continued to record the highest number with over 2,700 cases, the Ministry of Health has reported.
According to the ministry's report, 8,575 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 57 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (2,738), Thanh Hoa (463), Quang Nam (356), Hai Duong (326), and Phu Tho (275). There were 26 imported cases confirmed the same day.
The new infections showed a decrease of 145 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 5,002 infections found in the community.
As of Thursday evening, 2,297,016 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (514,324), Binh Duong (292,944), Hanoi (139,677), Dong Nai (99,917), and Tay Ninh (88,405). Vietnam has so far confirmed 192 Omicron-infected cases.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 2,304,095. The country now stands 31st among 224 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On February 3, an additional 25,094 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 2,093,947.
On Thursday evening, a further 286 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 38,063. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Hanoi (55), Vinh Long (21), Ba Ria - Vung Tau (18), Bac Ninh (14), Ben Tre (14), Dong Nai (13), Binh Dinh (12), and HCM City (10).
Vietnam on February 2 administered 77,258 doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The country has so far conducted over 181.65 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 74.18 million people having received two doses.
