Vietnam has continued to report rising number of Covid-19 infections with additional 16,815 more cases confirmed on Monday, the Ministry of Health has reported.
According to the ministry's report, 16,809 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 61 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (2,988), Nghe An (1,247), Danang (935), Hai Duong (845), and Thanh Hoa (789). There were six imported cases confirmed the same day.
The new infections showed an increase of 2,704 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 11,147 infections found in the community.
As of Monday evening, 2,351,676 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (514,533), Binh Duong (292,981), Hanoi (150,996), Dong Nai (99,960), and Tay Ninh (88.539). Vietnam has so far confirmed 192 Omicron-infected cases.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 2,358,786. The country now stands 34th among 225 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On February 7, an additional 9,665 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 2,122,380.
On Monday evening, a further 100 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 38,424. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Hanoi (19), Ba Ria - Vung Tau (9), Thua Thien-Hue (8 ), and Kien Giang (5).
Vietnam on February 6 administered 203,969 doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The country has so far conducted over 182.42 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, including over 74.29 million people having received two doses and over 29.02 million people having received three doses.
