The three-metre long mammal was detected at a beach of Trieu Lang Commune, Trieu Phong District on February 24.

The whale is found at Quang Tri beach on February 24.
The whale carcass has become bloated and given out a foul smell.
Dang Quang Hai, chairman of Trieu Lang Commune People's Committee, said “We will bury the whale in line with the traditional customs. Whales have previously been found at local beaches.”
Whale worshipping is common among Vietnamese fishermen who believe that whale spirits protect them at sea. The custom of conducting burial services for whales was established in the area hundreds of years ago.
The central province of Ha Tinh is home to a special cemetery which is the final resting place for more than 100 whales.
