Many streets in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho were seriously flooded on Monday as tides on the Hau River peaked at 2.21 metres which is the highest this year.
The river water overflew into many streets, flooding many houses and offices.
Tran Hung Dao Street in central Ninh Kieu District was among the most heavily flooded, with parts submerged more than 50 cm.
The rising flood occurred during the morning rush hours and caused traffic congestion on the streets. Many schools have had to close and organised online classes instead.
Some parts of Can Tho Heart Hospital were flooded.
People had to use sandbags to prevent flood water from overflowing into their houses.
Police and military officers were sent to the area to direct traffic and conduct rescue work.
According to the Can Tho Hydro-Meteorological Station, tides have been rising for several days and have already reached the record level reported in 2019.
