In the central city of Danang, tens of thousands of people flocked to the streets to celebrate the festival on Friday evening.
Despite serious congestion on some streets including Dien Bien Phu, Phan Chu Trinh, and Nguyen Van Linh, people laughed and sang along to some popular children's songs.
Many lion dancers were hired to perform at some shops and restaurants, attracting lots of people.
The dancers thrilled revellers with their exciting dance and the sound from their drums and gongs.
Many people brought their children to enjoy the atmosphere.
Pham Thi Nhu Y and her husband took their two children to watch a lion dance performance in Thanh Khe District. They then drove their motorbike along the streets to enjoy the atmosphere.
Police officers had to be sent to some places to direct the traffic.
In the central city of Hue, 10 groups of lion and dragon dancers together with 300 local students participated in a lantern parade along many streets in the city centre on the evening of September 9.
The parade, which was among the activities of this year’s Hue Festival, attracted many people.
The same exciting atmosphere was seen in the northern city of Tuyen Quang where a lantern parade featured large-sized lanterns of different shapes.
The annual festival is celebrated on the 14th and 15th day of the eighth lunar month.
