Tran Quoc Khanh, from Tuy Phuoc District, has been struggling with the disease since late 2021. Initially, he faced high fevers, while his arms were unable to move. It took several months to diagnose the disease.

In early 2022, his condition worsened due to contracting Covid-19 for two times.
Khanh spent months at the HCM City Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion for the marrow transplant, costing VND2.5 billion (USD106,352) with the majority from loans.
But, just a short time after being discharged from the hospital, he faced a relapse and he was hospitalised again.
He has had hospital treatment three times. Each time costs at least VND60 million. Tran Van Nhi, Khanh’s father, said the family can’t afford the costs of treatment anymore.
He has been recognised for good academic results throughout his school years.
Huynh Tan Dung, chairman of Phuoc An Commune, said that Khanh’s family is very poor. His parents have sold all of their valuables for his treatment. He hoped that donors could support them.
