Authorities in the central province of Thanh Hoa and leading real estate developer Sun Group on April 26 broke ground on a large-scale commercial services and cable car project in Am Tien, Trieu Son district.
The development marks the first phase of the spiritual and historical tourism complex project - Legend of Am Tien - which will be implemented in the Nua mountain area, home to the revered Nua Temple – Am Tien site, with a total investment of 35 trillion VND (approximately 1.34 billion USD).

Spanning nearly 350 hectares, the "Legend of Am Tien" project comprises three phases. The first phase, worth nearly 2.97 trillion VND, will feature a 31.74-hectare commercial services area and two of four single-rope cable car routes to link the mountain’s base to the foot of a Buddha statue.
The second phase will cover a 58.62-hectare cultural landscapes and tourism services area, with an estimated investment of 9.63 trillion VND. The final will involve the construction of a 295.64-hectare ecological and wellness tourism resort, valued at 22.43 trillion VND.
A highlight of the second phase will be a vast silver-plated bronze statue of Vairocana Buddha, expected to be the largest of its kind in the world. Phase three will showcase the legendary figure of national heroine Ba Trieu through art and architecture, including depictions of white elephants, bronze gongs and war drums, in a themed “Legendary Village”.

In addition to its core components, the complex will also house cultural and performance venues, a ceramic mural illustrating the eight stages of the Buddha’s life, and temples built in a traditional architectural style.
The entire complex is scheduled for completion between 2027 and 2030, with the cable car system expected to begin operations in 2027.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Nguyen Van Thi, Standing Vice Chairman of the Thanh Hoa provincial People’s Committee, said the project is expected to become a unique tourism offering that will enhance Thanh Hoa’s appeal and competitiveness while driving local socio-economic development. He also highlighted Sun Group’s expanding tourism ecosystem in the province, calling it a key factor in Thanh Hoa’s goal to become Vietnam’s next major tourism hub.
The Nui Nua – Am Tien site, recognised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2009 as a national cultural and historical relic, is closely tied to the 3rd-century uprising led by Ba Trieu against Chinese occupation.
