Quang Ninh steps up efforts to attract Russian tourists

Russian tourists are considered a high-potential market due to their preference for longer stays and relatively high spending, local tourism authorities said.

Quang Ninh is leveraging its tourism infrastructure, including Van Don International Airport and luxury resorts, to emerge as a new destination for Russian travellers alongside Nha Trang, Phu Quoc and Mui Ne.
Beyond high-end hotels and resorts, the province has expanded luxury cruise services on Halong Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay, offering overnight accommodation, dining and entertainment for premium travellers.

Quang Ninh aims to welcome 22 million visitors this year, including around 5.4 million international tourists, with the Russian market identified as one of its key promotional targets.

The province has recently stepped up tourism promotion in Russia, inviting travel firms and famtrip delegations to experience local offerings, including kayaking, cave tours in Halong Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay, local cuisine and conference tourism services.

Pham Anh Trung of Halo-Eco Group, which operates heritage cruises linking Halong Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay, said Russian visitors showed strong interest in the area and tended to spend freely during their trips.

“Before the recent holiday, we welcomed a Russian group that chartered an entire cruise for a two-day, one-night trip on Halong Bay,” Trung said, noting that many Russian tourists were still more familiar with destinations such as Cam Ranh and Khanh Hoa than Halong Bay.

Nguyen Viet Dung said Quang Ninh welcomed more than 12,000 Russian visitors in the first four months of 2026, surpassing the total of more than 7,000 recorded in all of 2025.

Dung said Quang Ninh expects to welcome more than 100 Russian travel businesses and agents on famtrip tours in the second quarter as part of efforts to further increase visitor numbers, particularly to Halong Bay and Van Don.

With improving tourism infrastructure, expanding luxury tourism offerings and the appeal of UNESCO-listed Halong Bay, Quang Ninh is aiming to strengthen its position as a destination for high-spending international travellers, including visitors from Russia.
