Authorities in Dien Bien Province on May 10 held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Dien Bien Phu cultural and historical tourism cable car complex in Muong Phang Commune.

The project covers around 35.35 hectares across Muong Phang and Pu Nhi communes in Dien Bien Province. Developed by Sun Group, the complex has a total planned investment of VND 2.076 trillion (approximately USD 80 million).
The development includes a modern monocable system linking departure and arrival stations, alongside a network of commercial, service and entertainment facilities.
The cable car line, stretching more than 5km, will connect the historic military assembly site where victory was declared during the Dien Bien Phu campaign in Muong Phang Commune to Pu To Co peak.

Situated at an altitude of 1,700 metres above sea level, Pu To Co served as an observation post for Vo Nguyen Giap during the Dien Bien Phu campaign.
Once operational, the project is expected to serve around 15,000 visitors per day and become a new tourism destination for Dien Bien, contributing to the development of a large-scale cultural, tourism and service ecosystem.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Van Thang praised Dien Bien’s efforts to improve the investment climate and attract businesses. He said the project would help realise the province’s tourism development strategy in the coming years.
At the event, Dien Bien Party Secretary Tran Tien Dung described the development as one of the province’s key infrastructure projects. Authorities pledged to prioritise site clearance, accelerate administrative procedures and coordinate closely with the investor during implementation.
