Danang plans tea-tasting tours atop Ban Co Peak

The central city of Danang is inviting businesses to pilot tea-tasting tours atop Ban Co Peak on Son Tra Peninsula as part of efforts to develop new high-end eco-tourism products.

The Son Tra Peninsula and Danang Tourist Beach Management Board said applications from tourism, cultural and culinary businesses would be accepted until May 30.

The proposed model is designed as a private eco-tourism experience combining relaxation and nature, targeting higher-spending visitors.

Authorities encouraged participating businesses to develop environmentally friendly and creative service models suited to the natural landscape of Son Tra Peninsula.

The idea for the tea-tasting tours was inspired by a visit to Ban Co Peak by Bill Gates during a trip to Danang in March 2024, local officials said.

Under the proposal, tours would operate during sunrise and sunset hours, subject to weather conditions and guidance from authorities.

Tea-serving areas are expected to be set up near the statue of a celestial chess player at the summit of Ban Co Peak, which sits nearly 700 metres above sea level and is often described as the roof of Danang.

Located about 10 kilometres from the city centre, the site has attracted growing numbers of domestic and international tourists since Gates’ visit.
