Cai Rang Floating Market traders trained to improve tourism services

Authorities in Can Tho City have launched training programmes for traders at the Cai Rang Floating Market to improve food safety, environmental hygiene and tourism service standards.

The training sessions, organised by the city’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, are taking place on May 14-15 in Cai Rang Ward.

Participants are being instructed on tourism services, environmental protection, food safety regulations, inland waterway transport safety, fire prevention and rescue skills.

Sam Long Giang, deputy director of the department, said the programme was intended to improve tourism service quality and strengthen the image of Can Tho as a friendly, safe and attractive destination.

Traders and boat owners are also being encouraged to improve the appearance of vessels, publicly display prices and adopt more professional tourism practices.

According to local authorities, around 210 households are currently operating at Cai Rang Floating Market, mainly selling agricultural products, food, souvenirs and tourism services.

The market has diversified its tourism offerings in recent years with food stalls, OCOP product displays, fruit garden tours, cultural attractions and riverside accommodation services.

Authorities said the city was continuing to promote the floating market through digital tourism platforms and smart tourism applications, including VR360 mapping technology.

Located on a branch of the Hau River, Cai Rang Floating Market is one of the Mekong Delta region’s best-known cultural attractions and was recognised in 2026 as a national intangible cultural heritage site.
