Bathing under shaded shelters at Quang Ngai’s Khe Hai Beach

Visitors to Khe Hai Beach in Quang Ngai Province can swim in shallow crystal, clear waters while relaxing beneath shaded shelters built directly over the sea.

Khe Hai Beach, located in Binh Son Commune on the border between Quang Ngai Province and Danang, remains one of the central coast’s most unspoilt seaside destinations.

Situated deep inside Dung Quat Bay, the beach has an unusually gentle slope. Even 40 to 50 metres from the shore, the water is only about one metre deep, a rare feature among beaches in central Vietnam.

Taking advantage of the shallow waters, local residents have built seaside stalls and shelters stretching to the water’s edge, allowing visitors to enjoy the sea while sitting or resting under shaded canopies.

Le Tan Bat, owner of one of the beachside stalls, said sea levels are typically highest between February and April each year.

“At high tide, waves can reach halfway into the stalls. During summer, the water recedes and only about one third of the structures remain submerged,” he said.

Bat added that, besides offering shaded spaces for swimmers, local businesses also attract tourists with fresh seafood at affordable prices.

Nguyen Thi Ha, a visitor to the beach, said the flat seabed and calm waves made the area especially safe for children.

“Children can play comfortably in the seawater under the cool shelters, while adults can relax in hammocks above the clear sea,” she said.

There are currently 15 beachside stalls operating at Khe Hai Beach. During public holidays and weekends, the destination welcomes thousands of visitors who come to swim, relax and enjoy seafood.

According to authorities in Binh Son Commune, Khe Hai is one of Quang Ngai Province’s most beautiful and untouched beaches.

Thanks to its calm waters, flat terrain and unusual shaded bathing experience, the beach attracts tens of thousands of visitors each year.
